PRE-PRIMARY YEARS (NURSERY – UKG)

Pre-primary age is the most impressionable age in a child’s life. The development of the child is rapid at this age where they are able to absorb whatever is taught to them. Thus, the onus of imparting knowledge that would help the child develop good habits, proper mind and inquisitiveness lies on the adults.

COURSEWORK

At this age, we aim to make the curriculum as fun and interactive as possible. The curriculum is an amalgamation of multiple approached such as waldorf, montessorie, Finland style and more.

Prime focus lies on developing child’s motor skills where each classroom is well equipped with educational toys, audio- visual learning resources and dedicated storytelling sessions.

The theoretical subjects include English, Hindi, Telugu, Numeracy and General Awareness which are imparted through personalized activities, toys, games, and the traditional listening, speaking, reading and writing method in a phased manner.

Apart from above, children are encouraged to engage themselves in playing fun full games for which an indoor and outdoor play areas are set up to provide maximum fun and learning while ensuring safety through specially designed slides, trails and rubber foam tiled floor.

PRIMARY SCHOOL YEARS (I-V)

COURSEWORK

All subjects are taught with equal emphasis on both written and spoken aspects. Every lesson is planned in detail and implemented in an innovative manner by accompanying activities and audio-visual learning resources. The activities include craftswork, mapwork, experiments, debates, discussions, field trips , home projects etc.

Along with these subjects, Co-Curriculur activities like Dance, Music, playing games and Yoga are ensured on daily basis as part of their regular timetable.

HOMEWORK & REMEDIAL WORK

At TVIS, we do not burden child with numerous amount of homework. A daywise timetable is set for subject-wise homework allotment in the start of academic year which makes sure homework is given for not more than 3 subjects which will include 2 written and 1 reading/research oriented work in a day. One day of every week is dedicated for remedial classes where students are coached with prime focus of language and mathematical skills.

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION

After completion of every topic, an informal class test is conducted which acts as an individual as well as overall class review for the subject teacher. Based on the review, the teacher moves forward to the next topic in the subject. The aim is to ensure that students have actually understood the concepts rather than resorting to rote learning. Apart from these formal examination like Term & Annual Examinations are conducted and a formal report is provided. Thus a continuous evaluation is ensured and timely report of the performance of the student is communicated to the parents through formal and informal channels.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS (VI – VIII)

Curriculum is developed keeping in mind 21st century requirements. Students are taught to be lifelong learners developing curiosity and inquisitiveness among them. The school follows 3 languages policy with English being compulsory and a choice of 2nd and 3rd language among Hindi, Sanskrit and Telugu with neither one repeating.

CLASSROOM TEACHING

The subjects are imparted using both traditional and modern ways of teaching. The teaching involves the Blackboard approach, complimented with practical work such as experiments, activities, two-way discussions. Every lesson is accompanied with audio-video learning resource. The student is always encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts till the concept is fully understood. Traditional way of worksheets and assignments on timely basis are given for the purpose of continuous learning.

An alternative style of learning is encouraged after completion of lesson i.e. PEER LEARNING where students teach the students based on their understanding. This develops rapport among the students and greater grasping of concepts.

HOMEWORK & REMEDIAL WORK

Homework given is based on beyond the books exploration, which will encourage research among the students at a young age. A  subject wise timetable is set at the start of academic year for the homeworks to avoid over burdening to the students. Almost twice a week remedial classes are held during or after school hours in consultation with the parents for students performing below the set benchmarks especially for language and mathematics subjects.

For residential students, tutors are assigned to them who take care of student’s shortcomings in any subject. Rest of the days students are encouraged to utilize some time after school for reading and improving their language skills.

SECONDARY SCHOOL YEARS (IX – X)

The school strictly adheres to the CBSE guidelines when it comes to class IX & X. A student has to study two languages with English being compulsory and choice from Hindi, Telugu and Sanskrit as second language.

CLASSROOM TEACHING

Along with traditional blackboard approach, modern tools of teaching are incorporated to ensure holistic understanding of the entire course. The teaching gets little rigorous at this level as the student is made prepared for Board Examination, first pedestal in a student’s school life. However a balance is being achieved between classroom teaching and practical based teaching through project works, activities, audio-visual learning resources and more. Twice in a week, a Zero period is allotted in regular timetable for students to review themselves, clarify doubts and catch up with regular syllabus by overcoming the shortcomings. Everyday, a games period is assigned which is beneficial for students mind and bodily well-being.

HOMEWORK & REMEDIAL WORK

At this level homework is assigned on a daily basis. However a timetable is assigned to ensure that the child is not over burdened. Students in need of extra hours of attention are given remedial classes after school hours. For residential students, dedicated study hours are allotted where the subject teacher would aid them in clarifying any doubts, repeating any topic and assisting in homework & project works.

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION

After completion of every lesson, a class test is conducted results of which marks as the performance of the students. Based on their performance the lesson is either re-taught or moved forward to next lesson. Regular assignment and worksheets are given to students to ensure continuous learning. Formal term examinations are held based on the CBSE Board Examination pattern and wherever necessary counseling are given to the students to keep their motivation levels at an all time high.

SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL YEARS (XI – XII)

At this level, the student has the option of two streams, which have to be opted in class XI, and it shall be continued for Class XII. Students are prepared not only for Board examination but for other competitive examinations to be taken after completion of school. Career counseling is also provided with professionals from various walks of life are made to interact with Class XI and XII students to help them make a wise career choice.

CLASSROOM TEACHING

Students are exposed to rigorous teaching with equal focus on practical learning. Teachers make sure to connect events from day to day life to make understand the subject holistically. A Zero period is allotted almost twice in a week to let the students review themselves, clarify the doubts that are long due. A games period is assigned everday for bodily and mind wellbeing and to act as a refreshment. During free time, students are encouraged to utilize the time to read newspaper, National magazines to keep themselves up to date with current events around globe and aid them in improving their language skills.

HOMEWORK & REMEDIAL WORK

Homework is given on a daily basis along with worksheets and assignment based on the timetable set for home works. Day scholars are encouraged to stay after school along with residential students for study hours in order to gain in-depth knowledge of the subject, revision work and timely completion of assignments given.

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION

The students at this level are assessed on continuous basis. Every lesson lecture is followed by a class test along with formal tests on cumulative basis based on board pattern of testing. Track record of every student’s performance is maintained and wherever necessary counseling is provided to him or her in orders keep their motivation levels at an all time high.
